ARIZONA MAN SENTENCED TO 3 YEARS FOR RAMMING PATROL CAR, COPPER WIRE THEFT

The second of two Arizona men who attempted to ram a Sheriff’s patrol car in October pleaded guilty to grand theft and assault yesterday. Dave Jensen, 51, and Ulysses Way, 50, had driven from Arizona to California with the intention of stealing copper wire—valued at $10,000—from Hi-Grade Materials in Twentynine Palms. As the men were returning to Arizona early in the morning of October 28, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Highway 62 near Godwin Road in Wonder Valley. Way put his vehicle into reverse and intentionally rammed the patrol car before speeding away. The men also threw objects out of the vehicle at the patrol car and Way tried again to ram the patrol car before his vehicle became stuck in a berm. Ulysses Way pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon November 8 and was sentenced to five years in prison. Tuesday, Dave Jensen accepted a plea bargain for assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and grand theft. He was sentenced to three years in state prison.
