Area 29 lights up Twentynine Palms with lots of extraterrestrial Friday fun (8/15)

On Friday August 15th, Corner 62 will put on an interdimensional experience. Beginning at 3.30pm with an interactive art installation by FlockFlockFlock, this event features “Emotional Encounters of the 29th Kind”.
At 6:00 p.m. there will be Readings from P.O. Box Outer Space, presented by Hi Desert Times Magazines.
A psychedelic performance by Theremin sensation Rocky Angel follows, where electro-magnetic fields are manipulated to produce eerie, ethereal sounds.
Finally, at 8:00 pm there will be a galactic screening of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy with designer and producer Robin Eisenberg at the Scorpion Lollipop.
There will be vegan Vietnamese food by Mystic Meals and Desert midnight lemonade with their specially curated mocktails will be there too.
Mojave Moon Apothecary, located at the Historic Plaza, is delighted to announce the return of the Planet Zelatron exhibit offering an enchanting experience which blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. On Planet Zelatron all minerals and flowers have phosphorescent qualities. Open throughout the weekend, Heather and Paul would love to show you their store, which is filled with rocks and minerals, tinctures, and other goodies.
Here Heather Basile and Paul Razo fill us in on this immersive exhibit:
PAUL: “For the store we love it because it’s an opportunity for people to go back there and be like Wow and geek out on all these great rock specimens. And for us we just love being able to create these artistic experiences. I think that’s been such a big part of this last year and a half, is just slugging this out quarterly and we did this last year and we just had people coming in from everywhere, so we had to do it again.”
HEATHER: “Yeah, so like last year we had people drive out from Palm Springs and Palm Desert specifically, but we started with this back room right here creating immersive experiences. So, like he said, quarterly we switch this out to an immersive experience where you’re transported through time or space in this instance to a different world that you normally wouldn’t be able to experience in the Desert. What I think is interesting about this exhibit is when you’re out there it’s very earthy and then you walk in here and it’s just this explosion of neon color which is very unexpected. All of these crystals have natural UV properties to them. I feel like so many crystal shops and rock shops are like ‘don’t touch’ or ‘you break you buy’ and we’re super kid-friendly and we tell everyone that walks in the door ‘Touch everything.’ My favorite thing is when kids come in here and get to experience this because what kid doesn’t geek out on rocks!”
The interdimensional galactic party continues all weekend with Alien Probe: Landing under the Stars on Saturday at the 29 Palms Inn and Space Jam on Sunday at the Plaza for a grand finale.
