ARE YOU PREPARED FOR AN EARTHQUAKE? HERE’S HOW

Smaller earthquakes in our region remind us again that our Morongo Basin is earthquake country. Managing Editor Tami Roleff tells you what should do to keep your family safe and together in the event of a major earthquake…..
We all know the Big One is coming, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but sometime. Before the Big One strikes, get together with your family or roommates to plan on what each person will do before, during and after an earthquake. Practice drop, cover, and hold on. Identify safe spots in every room. Keep shoes and a flashlight next to your bed. Select a safe place outside your home to meet. Designate an out-of-the-area person as a contact person, and make sure everyone has the phone number. Keep copies of important documents in a secure, waterproof container. Know the locations for the shut-off valves for water, electricity, and gas. And finally, have a disaster preparedness kit ready and accessible.
