Morongo Basin high school students who will graduate in 2021, have a GPA of 3.25 or greater, and who plan to pursue a career involving environmental or conservation work are eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Morongo Basin Conservation Association. Local high school seniors interested in environmentalism are invited to apply for the $500 Ruth Denison Environmental Conservation Scholarship. Applicants invited for MBCA’s Ruth Denison Environmental Conservation Scholarship for 2021-2022 for Morongo Basin High School Graduates
The Morongo Basin Conservation Association [MBCA] provides the $500 Ruth Denison Environmental Conservation Scholarship to a Morongo Basin graduating senior who plans to attend a university or college and prepare for employment in careers related to environmental or conservation work.
Ruth Denison’s generous bequest fulfills one of MBCA’s longstanding goals to increase the organization’s support of environmental education for local students.
Ruth was the first Buddhist teacher in the United States to lead an all-women’s retreat for Buddhist meditation and instruction. Her Dhamma Dena Desert Vipassana Center is located in Joshua Tree. Ruth was a long-time supporter of MBCA, the Basin’s oldest conservation organization.
An application is available for download at MBCA’s website. Student applicants must be Morongo Basin residents and 2021 high school graduates. The minimum GPA requirement is 3.25. We understand that employment and extra-curricular activities in the past year have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and will take that into consideration. The application should be completed and submitted by Saturday, April 3, 2021.
