An Apple Valley woman was arrested Thursday after stealing a new car from a handicapped man. Just after midnight on December 2, deputies responded to the 63100 block of Winters Road in Landers for a report of a stolen vehicle. Sheriff logs report that the victim had just purchased the vehicle and that the paperwork was in the vehicle when the victim handed the keys to a woman identified as Kimberly Detwiler, 50, so that she could retrieve something out of the vehicle. That is when Detwiler allegedly drove off in the vehicle, taking the victim’s walker with her. Later in the night, around 1 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers saw the stolen vehicle driving eastbound on Highway 62 and conducted a traffic stop at which point they were able to take Detwiler into custody without incident. Deputies transported the victim to the scene where he was able to positively identify Detwiler during an infield lineup as the person who stole his car. Kimberly Detwiler was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with her bail set at $50,000.
