The Apple Fire burning in the San Bernardino National Forest since July 21 was 90 percent contained Saturday morning after charring 33,424 acres. Fire authorities say they expect to call it contained today. Command of the firefighting efforts was transferred Friday from the federal government’s California Incident Management Team 2 to the San Bernardino National Forest. Fire officials warned that despite progress being made against the blaze, more work was needed before it was fully extinguished.
