APPARENT SPIKE IN COVID-19 DEATHS FROM A STATE DATA GLITCH

The number of San Bernardino County residents who have died due to complications from coronavirus went up 8.8 percent Sunday, August 9, to 546, but the county says that alarming number is due to the state correcting a weeks-long backlog. The new number of deaths, 44, is second only to a one-day high of 59 set August 4.

Here in the Morongo Basin we have had 212 confirmed cases and 8 deaths. Yucca Valley with 126 cases and five deaths; Joshua Tree with 35 cases and two deaths; Twentynine Palms 28 cases; Morongo Valley 18 cases; Landers with four cases and one death; and Pioneertown with one case.

Countywide there have been 35,712 cases with 27,940 recoveries.
