Apartment complex fire in Twentynine Palms sends 3 to hospital

A fire at an apartment complex in Twentynine Palms sent three people to the hospital.

At 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning (July 9), San Bernardino County Fire and County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a fire at an apartment complex in the area of Sunrise Rd. and Maude Adams Ave. in Twentynine Palms.

A medical engine arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from one of the units and a downed powerline hazard was immediately noted. The Marine Base fire department was also on scene to assist with fire suppression efforts.

Sheriff’s Deputies say that one person was breaking windows in one of the units in an attempt to rescue dogs that were trapped in the burning building.

Fire crews report that the fire was knocked down in under 20 minutes. A total of three units in the apartment complex were damaged along with a nearby vehicle. The incident is being investigated and a cause has yet to be determined.

Two people were taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center by Morongo Basin Ambulance for treatment for burns and smoke inhalation. An additional person drove themself to the hospital, and a fourth person at the scene declined medical treatment.
