Just a day after a Twentynine Palms man was arrested for felony failure to yield, another Twentynine Palms man was arrested following a high-speed chase past homes and schools. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy tried to stop a vehicle, driven by Donald Cowart, 69, for driving 55 miles per hour in a 35 zone, on Highway 62 at Smoketree Avenue. Cowart rolled through a stop sign at two Mile Road and Mesquite Springs and continued north on Mesquite Springs. Despite activating lights and sirens, Cowart refused to stop, and accelerated until he was driving more than 80 miles per hour in a 55 per hour zone. Cowart finally pulled over just south of Indian Trail on Mesquite Springs Road. During the traffic stop, the deputy found a white crystalline substance in a baggie inside Cowart’s wallet. Donald Cowart was arrested for investigation of failure to yield and possession of methamphetamine, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, cited, and released.
