ANOTHER LOAD OF CARROTS DUMPED IN THE MORONGO BASIN

For the third time in about two months, a semi-trailer hauling carrots overturned its load in the Morongo Basin. Monday, a truck pulling two trailers of carrots was driving northbound on Old Woman Springs Road about 1:30 p.m. when a black sedan traveling southbound crossed the double lines into the truck’s lane near Aberdeen Drive. The semi driver moved to the right shoulder and the second trailer overturned, spilling carrots all over the road and into the desert. While deputies were at the scene investigating the crash, another driver traveling southbound on Old Woman Springs failed to stop and drove straight into a Sheriff’s patrol car that was parked in the southbound lane. There were no injuries in either crash. Caltrans responded to the scene to clean up the carrots. On March 20, a semi-trailer hauling carrots crashed into another semi on the highway in Morongo Valley spilling carrots on the highway. On February 3, a trailer carrying carrots overturned as the semi turned from eastbound Highway 62 onto northbound Old Woman Springs Road, spilling carrots into the intersection.
