ANNUAL TWENTYNINE PALMS WEED SHOW THIS WEEKEND

The Twentynine Palms Historical Society will hold its annual weed show this weekend. The weed show features desert residents competing for the best composition using local weeds and found objects in a variety of themed categories, including one for kids only and one category using an arrangement of live plant material with museum-quality purple glass as an accessory. This year’s theme is “Growing Like a Weed” and is tied into the completion of the 2600-square foot multipurpose building that officially opened during Pioneer Days. The theme of 2019 Weed Show, sponsored by the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, is “Growing Like a Weed.” The Weed Show is a twist on the traditional concept of a floral display, using desert vegetation as well as found objects—both natural and man-made. Entries are judged on subject matter, use of desert vegetation, use of accessories, artistic composition and originality. Awards are won in twelve categories, with a “People’s Choice” award to be decided by visitors to the exhibition. This year’s weed show is scheduled for noon to 4 on Saturday, November 2, and 10 to 4 on Sunday, November 3. If you want to enter the weed show, take-in is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
