Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. will be honored tomorrow, January 20, across the country and here in the Morongo Basin in Twentynine Palms. To commemorate Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday, the Twentynine Palms Bible Baptist Church will hold its annual march Monday under the theme of “Do the Right Thing.” The one-mile march celebration starts promptly at 8 a.m. at Little Church of the Desert, 6079 Adobe Road and ends at Palms Southern Baptist Church, 5285 Adobe Road, in Twentynine Palms. Following the march will be a program with local speakers, music, and free refreshments. Speakers will include 29 Palms Bible Baptist Church Pastor Layton Matthews, Palms Baptist Church Pastor David Squires, and Twentynine Palms Mayor Joel Klink. Performers include the Spirit and Truth Worship Christian Center Praise Team. A full list of speakers and performers is available below.
