AN IDEAL HUSBAND, AN IDEAL SET, AT THEATRE 29

The comedy, “An Ideal Husband” by Oscar Wilde continues its run at Theatre 29 through February 7. Reporter Rebecca Havely shares how “An Ideal Husband” created its ideal set…
Veteran Theater 29 director Butch Pelfry is known for his beautifully designed sets. He came back from a vacation during rehearsals for “An Ideal Husband” with an injury that caused him to have to design this time on paper only. Co-director Tom Highfill stepped up to the plate immediately and did all the major building of Pelfry’s design with the assistance of cast members Earl Childs and Ken King. The intricate floor designs were hand-painted by Frances Wright. The finishing touches of set dressing and décor were added by Rebecca Havely, with assistance from Shannon McWilliams. Add the brilliant costumes designed by Kathryn Ferguson, and a large, talented cast to the words of Oscar Wilde and you have a spectacular, intricate 1895 English drawing-room comedy. As director/designer Butch Pelfry put it, “It’s the most beautiful set I never built.”
“An Ideal Husband” will run Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. through, February 7 with a 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday February 1. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military, $8 for students with I.D. and children 12 and under. For reservations call the theater box office at 760-361-4151 or to purchase tickets on line visit theatre29.org.
