We have more information about a two-vehicle crash in Morongo Valley Thursday that sent one man to the hospital. According to the California Highway Patrol, Jose Camposreina, 33, of Van Nuys, was driving a white 2021 Toyota Tundra westbound in the number one lane on Highway 62 just before 8 p.m. As he approached Sams Trail, Christian Peterson, 44, of Olympia, Washington, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, pulled out from the dirt road to make an illegal left-hand turn, across solid double yellow lines, onto eastbound Highway 62. The front of Camposreina’s Toyota collided with the left rear quarter panel and left rear wheel of the Silverado. The collision caused the Silverado to spin 180 degrees, lose its left rear wheel and break its axle. The truck came to rest in the eastbound number 2 lane, blocking the highway. The Toyota ended up in the center median partially blocking the highway’s eastbound number 1 lane. Camposreina’s front seat passenger, Jose Cua, 35, of Van Nuys, suffered a serious injury to his hand and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. Camposreina, his other two passengers, and Peterson, all suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. CHP Officer Radford performed a field sobriety test on Peterson and determined that he was driving drunk. Christian Peterson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000. If you witnessed this crash, call Officer Radford at 760-366-3707.
