A Yucca Valley man who said he wanted to leave California may end up staying here longer than he would like after he was accused Tuesday morning of intentionally setting fire to a cabin in Landers. According to a Sheriff’s report, firefighters were called to a structure fire near Youngs Freeway and University Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. The structure, described as both a “cabin” and a “shed,” was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived and it burned to the ground. Firefighters called deputies for back up when a man, later identified as Damian Sgantas, 26, allegedly told them he set the fire. The report states that Sgantas took a stick and used it to light a mattress inside the cabin so that deputies would come and arrest him so that he could get out of California. Damian Sgantas was arrested on suspicion of arson, booked at the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000.
