A man was arrested at gunpoint in Joshua Tree late Wednesday night. According to Sheriff’s Deputy Yu, just before midnight, a black GMC Blazer—a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle involved in recent burglaries in the area—was speeding near Desert Air and Mountain View, and he initiated a pursuit. The empty SUV was located a short time later parked in a driveway in the 6800 block of Easterly Drive. Deputy Yu determined that the license plate on the Blazer belonged to a Chevy Silverado. Yu found .22- and .12- gauge ammunition shotgun rounds in the Blazer. Shoe tracks from the Blazer were tracked into the desert, and deputies saw a man, identified as Brian Kinard, 35, who admitted to being the driver of the Blazer. A records check found that Kinard is a felon convicted on weapons and burglary charges, and he also had a $125,000 felony warrant for his arrest for conspiracy. Kinard is also listed as an “armed and dangerous” fugitive from Idaho. Brian Kinard was arrested at gunpoint on suspicion of possession of ammunition, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his total bail set at $160,000. He will be extradited back to Idaho after completion of his court procedure in San Bernardino County.
