AN ARREST AFTER AN ATTEMPTED BURGLARY IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

One woman was arrested Saturday, and deputies are seeking another, for attempted burglary in Twentynine Palms. An observant neighbor called deputies about 10 a.m. Saturday after she saw two unknown women walking around a home in the 6700 block of Mesquite Drive in Twentynine Palms and peering in the windows. The women fled when the deputy arrived, but one suspect, Mekala Taufi, 37, was detained. Mekala Taufi was arrested for investigation of conspiracy and attempted burglary, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with her bail set at $25,000. In August, Taufi was arrested for investigation of mail theft. Her next court date for that case is October 9.
