A Yucca Valley man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly assaulted a Sheriff’s deputy. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy made a vehicle check on a Toyota Camry parked in a driveway in the 7400 block of Elk Trail in Yucca Valley about 3:45 a.m. The vehicle had been reported as stolen in Rancho Mirage. Deputies learned that the person in possession of the stolen vehicle, later identified as Daniel Vital, 30, was in the house next door. Deputies contacted Vital who admitted he had the keys and that the car belonged to him. When deputies attempted to take Vital into custody, he tried to take a fighting stance and actively resisted. Deputies managed to arrest Daniel Vital for investigation of battery on a law enforcement officer, booked into Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. When deputies contacted the Toyota’s registered owner, the owner said he had allowed Vital to use the car and had not called law enforcement to take the Toyota out of the stolen vehicle system.
