AMBOY SEARCH DELAYED BECAUSE OF EXTREME HEAT

The search for a missing Virginia woman who disappeared near the Amboy Crater in June has been delayed indefinitely because of the extreme heat. The search for Susan Schmeirer was called off June 25 because of 117-degree air temperatures and 165-degree ground temperatures near the Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark. A body discovered near the crater June 16 matched the description of a Virginia man traveling to Palm Springs with his wife, who is the one still missing. Search teams made several attempts to find her, high temperatures threatened search dogs and rough terrain disabled two Sheriff’s Department off-highway search and rescue vehicles.
