Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an assault in which shots were fired in Joshua Tree Tuesday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, deputies were called to a home in the 59400 block of Cielito Drive about 1:30 p.m. for a report of a man beaten with a baseball bat. The victim told dispatchers he was bleeding, his teeth had been knocked out, he had a gun and was in fear for his life, and that he would shoot the next person who came to the location. Deputies determined that the victim argued with his uncle and grandmother, who both allegedly hit the victim with a baseball bat. The victim then got a handgun from the home and fired a warning shot in his uncle’s direction, authorities said. The victim was airlifted to Arrowhead Medical Center with head trauma. A report will be sent to the district attorney to determine if any charges will be filed.
