An allegedly drunk 55-year-old man from Anaheim was injured Thursday after witnesses said he walked into traffic on Highway 62 and was hit by a vehicle in Joshua Tree. According to the California Highway Patrol, about 4 p.m., Christopher Moline was thrown out of the Joshua Tree Saloon for drunk and disorderly behavior. Witnesses said Moline then stood in the highway’s eastbound bike lane west of Elwood Street, and made obscene gestures to passing vehicles. Ronald Asher, 75, of Shingletown, was driving a 2008 Chevy, towing a travel trailer, eastbound on the highway. As Asher passed Moline, Moline stepped into traffic and was struck by the travel trailer. Asher, unaware of Moline’s actions or injury, continued eastbound on the highway. A witness to the collision chased down Asher, who stopped east of Bonair and waited for law enforcement. Asher told deputies he saw Moline standing in the highway after he passed him and didn’t realize he had hit him. Moline was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with non-life-threatening head injuries. The collision is still under investigation.
