Alleged assault on a student by a teacher at Yucca Valley High School under investigation

A substitute teacher at Yucca Valley High School was placed on administrative leave yesterday (December 4) pending an investigation into alleged assault on a student.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s department Deputies responded to the high school at 8:30 a.m. to investigate allegations of an assault on a 15-year-old student by a staff member. The staff member was identified as Alice Barbee, a 71 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms.

A statement from Morongo Unified School District says that Barbee is alleged to have hit a student in classroom. The student did not suffer any injuries. The MUSD statement says that Deputies received conflicting reports regarding the incident.

Barbee was immediately separated from the student, and she has been placed on administrative leave, while the MUSD reviews the incident. Deputies conducted a criminal investigation into potential criminal charges of Child Endangerment and the report is being forwarded to the County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential filing of charges.
