Three of our local high schools took home a win in Friday night play. The Yucca Valley High School Trojan Varsity team dominated Riverside Prep High School, winning 45 to 6. Coach Andrew Amosa said the defense was stout all night long with EJ Featherstone leading the team with 11 tackles. Noah Rodriguez had eight tackles, Jared Nutter and Joe Jennings added seven tackles each. On offense, the Trojans had a total of seven touchdowns and racked up a total 603 yards on the night. Lucas Lopez had three rushing TDs and had 318 yards on the ground. Jake Moore had two touchdowns of his own, and sophomore quarterback Eli Lynch threw a touchdown pass to Blade Hildebrand. The Trojans will travel this Friday to Victorville to face Excelsior Charter High School. Junior varsity will be at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at 7 p.m.
The Twentynine Palms High School varsity Wildcats traveled to Apple Valley bringing home a 19-0 victory over the Granite Hills Cougars. Coach Ernest Martinez said outstanding defense held the Cougars to only 12 yards of rushing offense and only six first downs throughout the contest, three interceptions, and allowed only 11 receptions for the game. Key defensive leaders were Michael Clark, Eneliko Tuli, Derek Sutherland, K.J. Magwood, Gunnar Moss, and Caleb Roy. The Wildcats’ offense had impressive passing numbers, completing 14 of 22 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Hugh Carpenter started his first varsity game and was 12 of 20 for 140 yards. Junior D’Shaun Barrett played in the fourth quarter and was two for two passing with one touchdown. On offense, Hugh Carpenter, Eneliko Tuli, Derek Sutherland, D’Shaun Barrett, and Adam Bell combined for 220 all-purpose yards. The ’Cats will play their second game of the season on the road as they travel to face Indio next Friday night.
The Joshua Springs High School Lightning hosted Spring Mountain High School from Las Vegas at home Friday night and took a 22-0 win.
The Yucca Valley High School Trojan junior varsity team came away with a 29-0 win against Riverside Prep High School. The defense finished the game in a shutout led by sophomores Aiden Mitchell and Ruben Jimenez. On offense, freshmen quarterback Braden Brimhall connected with junior Rodriguez for a touchdown pass and Aiden Mitchell added two rushing touchdowns.
