Some said it couldn’t be done; others said it shouldn’t be done; and for more than 30 years, it appeared it wouldn’t be done. Well, now it’s done and you’re invited to celebrate at a ribbon cutting. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more…
Decades in the making, the promise of clean, potable water piped right to the tap has become a reality in Pioneertown. The public is invited to a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, September 13 behind Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace where a continental breakfast will be provided. Completed under the auspices of County Special Districts, the 120 service connections in Pioneertown will receive their water as part of County Service Area 70 W-4. The water is being pumped to the isolated community from a Hi-Desert Water District well in Yucca Valley. Pioneertown has seen most of its wells taken out of service in recent years due to high levels of naturally occurring uranium and arsenic. And while the new pipeline is already fully functioning, the County has told residents not to drink the water until after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. This final delay will allow time to purge all remaining contaminated water from the lines and holding tanks.
