ABOUT 50 YUCCA VALLEY RESIDENTS ATTEND POOL/AQUATIC WORKSHOP

About four dozen people showed up last night for the first workshop to find out what Yucca Valley residents want in their new aquatics center.

Residents listen as representatives from LPA Architecture firm discuss options for the new Yucca Valley aquatics center.

The architects are looking at two sites owned by the town: a vacant lot area in the Brehm Sports Park, and the soccer and softball fields at the community center. Managing editor Tami Roleff was at the event, and tells us what the most requested features were…

One of the proposed sites for the new aquatics center is the green area in this map at the Yucca Valley community center complex.

Representatives from LPA architecture firm have met with stakeholders, town staff, and focus groups to find out what their priorities were for a new aquatics and recreation center. Last night was their first meeting with town residents.

Residents look at the various design features for an aquatics center and recreation center.

The top items on the wish list for the aquatics center were a 50-meter pool and a hybrid indoor pool, with an indoor track and basketball court/gym in the recreation center.

One of two proposed sites for the Yucca Valley aquatics center is a vacant dirt lot east of the soccer fields at Brehm Sports Park.

Other popular requests were for lap swimming, a hybrid outdoor pool, splash pad, lazy river, sustainability for the center, teen game room, weight training, and an amphitheater.

Arash Izadi from LPA shows photos of some of the types of pools that could be included in Yucca Valley’s new aquatics center.

Residents will have another opportunity to weigh in on what they’d like to see in the new aquatics center at a second workshop set for July 25. A conceptual design will be presented to the town council in September, and the aquatics center is supposed to be open by June 2022.

Participants were given 3 stickers to place on the pool and recreation feature they favored.
