Early this morning (April 9), a fire at an abandoned building in Twentynine Palms was extinguished but left the structure a total loss.
At around 2:42 a.m., 911 calls were made regarding a fire at a single-story residence in the 6200 block of Cahuilla St. San Bernardino County Fire Crews from Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree, with assistance from the Combat Center found a well involved fire in an attached garage, and the rest of the house filled with thick smoke.
The fire was extinguished within thirty minutes, and the fire did not spread to neighboring structures, but the house itself is considered a total loss. No one appeared to be living in the house, and no injuries to firefighters were reported. An official with County Fire said that no cause has yet been determined.
