A young girl in Yucca Valley has some big dreams. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Flash forward to 2024. It’s the summer Olympics, and representing the US in Cycling BMX is—wait for it—Kuylee Pettit, the Yucca Valley bicycling champion!
At least that’s 11-year-old Kuylee’s dream.
She’s been competing in the event—also known as Bicycle Motocross—for three years, often practicing on the track at Yucca Valley BMX, conveniently owned by her parents. For those unfamiliar with the sport, it involves riding a stout bike on a dirt obstacle course over sharp curves and steep hills.
Kuylee will take two big steps towards her Olympic dream later this summer; first by competing in the BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina, then as a flag bearer at the State Games of America in Grand Rapids, Michigan. To make it happen, her parents have started an online GoFundMe campaign.
And what motivates Kuylee? “I love the adrenaline of racing. I love the rush you get. I love everything about the sport.”
To contribute to Kuylee’s trips to South Carolina and Michigan, go to www.gofundme.com, search for “Keri Dillman” and follow the instructions under the heading “State Games of America” and the picture of Kuylee on a hill with her bike.
