A very unique, one-of-a-kind attraction brings more delightful quirkiness to downtown Joshua Tree. Reporter David Haldane visited the Beauty Bubble hair museum and salon…
Ever used a pin wiz? If not, you’re in good company. Chances are you’ve never been to the Beauty Bubble either, the new salon in downtown Joshua Tree.
It’s the hair-brained scheme of Jeff Hafler, 44, who, until this year, had the colorful beauty salon/museum at his Wonder Valley home. Now he’s living his dream: a roadside attraction along Highway 62.
His collection of hairaphernalia consists of about 3,000 pieces ranging from a kerosene heated curling iron oven, circa 1883, to the 1940s bobby pin stapler called the pin wiz.
“This is a cultural history that we can all relate to. Everybody has hair, had hair or has had a haircut. Everybody has some sort of memory attached to something in here.”
That certainly seemed true of Andre Gregory, a recent visitor from New York. “It’s amazing; it’s like a dream world. Your imagination couldn’t come up with this.”
Valerie Wade, of London, agreed. “This is like a parallel universal, it’s a piece of art.”
Oh, yes, and they also do hair.
