It was another frustrating evening for the Copper Mountain College men’s basketball team Saturday afternoon. CMC faced number 2-ranked East LA College on the third and final day of the Riverside City College Tournament.
The Fighting Cacti lost two in a row coming into Saturday and had been trying to gather themselves after facing recent adversity on and off of the court. It was a hard-fought first half for CMC, who gave East LA trouble with a variety of defenses. Big 3-pointers from D’shaun Barrett and powerful play from Kenny Bates helped Copper Mountain College narrow ELAC’s lead to 36-26 at the half.
Honorable play from battered sophomore point guard Anthony Rice (who played with a broken wrist) led CMC Scorers with 11 points. Kenny Bates Added 10 points and 8 Rebounds. Despite the valiant effort, CMC would Fall 78-60. Copper Mountain is on a 3 game skid and falls to 7-5 on the year. They Men will have a few days off before competing in the Mt. San Jacinto Holiday tournament next Friday 12/14 against San Diego Mesa college, 7pm @MSJC.
