A SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN MORONGO VALLEY

The San Bernardino County Arson and Bomb squad is investigating a suspicious fire in Morongo Valley. About 1:45 a.m. Thursday, Morongo Valley firefighters were called to a cabin on fire near North Star Trail and Elm Street. Firefighters were initially given the wrong address for the blaze, and Division Chief Bob Springer said it took them awhile to find where the fire was and how to get back to it. The small cabin was fully involved in flames by the time fire crews arrived. Springer said the cabin’s owner was allowing a woman to stay in the cabin, which had no power, no cooking facilities, no heat, and the woman said she was not burning any candles. The cabin is a total loss, and the fire also burned two vehicles and nearby vegetation surrounding the cabin. Crews were on scene until about 5:30 mopping up the blaze.
