We have new information about a stolen truck in Joshua Tree that led to the arrest of two Morongo Basin residents. According to Sheriff’s reports, an unidentified victim had their white GMC flatbed truck stolen from their property in Joshua Tree earlier this month. While searching for their vehicle, the victim located it at a residence in the 62000 block of Mountain View Circle in Joshua Tree and notified the Sheriff’s department. When Deputies arrived, they contacted Dustin Devine, 40, of Joshua Tree and Samuel Collins, 52, of Twentynine Palms at the home. Devine reportedly told Deputies that he located the vehicle abandoned near Los Olivos Avenue and Valle Vista Road in the county area of Twentynine Palms. Devine chained the vehicle to his truck and towed it to his residence. During a search of the vehicle, Deputies located a suicide note, which Deputies determined was very old and had no relevance to the case. Deputies were able to match boot prints found at the original recovery location to Devine’s boots. Devine reportedly admitted to taking the vehicle without permission and did not know who owned the vehicle. While questioning Devine, Deputies discovered that Collins has an active misdemeanor warrant. Dustin Devine was arrested for investigation of grand theft auto and booked into the Morongo Basin jail with his bail set at $50,000. Samuel Collins was arrested for investigation of violating a restraining order and for his warrant and booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $35,000.
