Sheriff’s investigators are scratching their heads over a strange case of musical stolen cars in Yucca Valley Wednesday. From what deputies have been able to piece together, the thief tried to steal a black 1993 Honda Civic from the parking lot in the Dollar Tree store in the 58600 block of 29 Palms Highway in Yucca Valley, probably shortly after 10 a.m. The vehicle had pry marks on the door. The thief evidently gave up on that car and ended up stealing a black 1992 Honda Civic parked nearby about 10:20 a.m. Sheriff’s Sergeant Robert Warrick said the thief drove the stolen car to the Yucca Valley Family Medical Center at Warren Vista and the highway. The thief left the stolen car there and stole another black Honda Civic, this one a 1997, about 10:35, and drove it to Yucca Valley High School where the car was left. Warrick said deputies believe the thief then went to Ultimate Motors, in the 58600 block of the highway, and stole a gold 1997 Honda Civic sometime between 10:30 and 11:45, and drove it to Desert Hot Springs. Desert Hot Springs police recovered the stolen gold Honda Civic in a restaurant parking lot, where another Honda Civic had been reported stolen. The Sheriff’s report says a video from the Desert Hot Springs scene showed the thief taking his belongings out of the stolen gold Honda and putting them into another Honda Civic, which was subsequently stolen. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
