A RESIGNATION FROM THE MORONGO UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD

The Morongo Unified School District board of trustees made quick work of their regular meeting last night, wrapping up in just under an hour. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the meeting details…

At last night’s meeting, the board announced Trustee Megan Berge resigned from the board on Friday, May 7. President Hilary Slotta stated that more information would be released “as soon as possible.” The board also held a brief public hearing on a request to rename the Yucca Valley High School lecture hall as the John W. Frakes Jr. Memorial Hall, the board will hold a final vote on the name change during their next meeting on May 25. Assistant Superintendent Mike Ghelber then presented the 48 district employees recognized in honor of the 2021 Day of the Teacher and Classified School Employees Week.

In action items; the board unanimously approved the 2021-2022 board meeting calendar, approved application funding for sewer improvements at various school sites in Yucca Valley, approved a memorandum of understanding regarding the district’s HVAC improvement project, approved a $245,000 bid for roofing repairs at Condor Elementary School, and revised the district’s 2020-2021 English learner master plan.

Lastly, Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods updated the board on the district’s progress in signing students up for the 2021 Summer Expanded Learning Program and treated the board to a video performance from the Twentynine Palms Junior High School choir.
