A REMINDER TO CREATE A DEFENSIBLE SPACE AROUND YOUR HOME

With dry and windy conditions, fire is a real danger throughout the state, and yes, even in our corner of the desert. Reporter Taylor Thacker reminds you to help firefighters by creating a defensible space around your home…

The summer is heating up fast! Make sure you have a proper defensible space around your home to ensure that you and your family stay safe from fires. The first thing you should do is clear your yard of all dead foliage and cut off any loose branches within a 100 feet radius. Make sure no wood piles are near your house unless they are properly covered by a tarp or stored in a fully enclosed structure. Clear all shrubs and make sure your grass stays properly cut at all times. By doing these things you can reduce the risk of fires near your home. For more information, or to have your defensible space inspected by a fireman, call 909-386-8400.
