As COVID-19 cases rise in San Bernardino County, public health officials are anticipating an increase in emergency room visits from the public. Health officials believe this increase also may cause a strain on the 911 system. Assignment reporter Keith Bailey tells us how to avoid over straining the 911 system…
Local public health officials are urging the public to use the 911 system for actual emergencies to ensure that the first responders are available for life-threatening situations. To alleviate excessive 911 calls, the public health and safety officials are recommending that the public first contact their primary physician or their healthcare providers nurse health line for assistance. Most healthcare providers have a 24-hour nurse advice or call-for-care numbers available to serve their members for several non-emergency medical situations like colds, coughs, and questions about medications. These non-emergency calls should be directed to your provider’s non-emergency nurse advice line. The information for these services are listed on the back of your membership cards, and can be found on the providers website or Mobile apps.
If you or a loved one are experiencing any life-threatening emergency do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 and request an emergency response.
