A REMINDER ABOUT GUN SAFETY

A Yucca Valley woman received a scare Sunday morning (September 26), when she was struck by debris from a discharged shotgun fired by her neighbor. According to Sheriff’s reports, deputies were called to the 57900 block of Sunflower Drive in Yucca Valley by a woman who reported that a nearby neighbor had discharged a shotgun. The projectile struck the ground on her property, sending dirt into the air near where she was standing. Deputies contacted the neighbor, who believed he had discharged the gun in a safe direction. Ernest Figueroa offers these gun safety reminders…

Guns are dangerous when they are not handled or used properly and can easily injure or kill you, and those around you. There are no second chances with a gun and the rules for safe gun handling must always be followed to avoid accidents. Remember to always treat the gun as loaded, keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Never point the gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy, always use proper ammunition, and don’t rely on the gun’s safety to keep it from firing.
