A RARE MORONGO BASIN SNOWFALL CLOSES SCHOOLS, AFFECTS TRAFFIC

Here are the current Morongo Basin “Snow Day” closures/updates:

The Yucca Grade is open in both directions.

Old Woman Springs Road (Highway 247) is now open.

The following Morongo Basin Transit Authority routes are not running today: 12, 21, 7A & 7B.

MBTA Ready Ride is not running today.

MBTA Highway Route 1 is running now, but the last run tonight will be at 5 p.m.

All Morongo Unified School District schools were closed.

Copper Mountain College is closed.

Joshua Springs School was closed.

Little School of the Desert was closed.

Elite Cosmetology school was closed

Morongo Basin Haven was closed.

Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree Senior Centers are closed. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center is open as a warming center.

The Morongo Basin Community Health Centers in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms are closed for the day. The Healthcare District Board meeting for tonight was been cancelled.

All dirt roads in Joshua Tree National Park are closed. Road crews are out plowing the paved roads, but visitors are encouraged to wait until this afternoon to visit the park.

Early this morning, about 1,000 households in the Yucca Valley Area lost power, most of that power has been restored.

Hi-Desert Water District is closed today. If customers need to report a water emergency, call 760-365-8333. As a reminder, if you are experiencing no water service, your pipes may be frozen and need to thaw.  

The Yucca Valley Center for Change and Recovery Center, and the Joshua Tree Center for Change is closed today.

Burrtec trucks are not running today. Trash pickup will be one day behind.

The Yucca Valley Leads Lunch was cancelled.
