The Hi-Desert Water District is mailing out its sewer assessment notices next week, and Yucca Valley property tax owners will get a pleasant surprise. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains…
The Hi-Desert Water District announced Thursday that, due to income generated from the half-cent sale tax from Measure Z, the amount of the sewer assessment on residents’ 2018-19 property tax bills will be approximately half of what was anticipated. The sewer assessment for a single-family residence in Phase I will be $356.17, instead of $706.50, with similar discounts for other property classifications. Yucca Valley residents passed Measure Z in 2015 to help finance the cost of the $145 million sewer project; proceeds from the half-cent sales tax are to be used to reduce residents’ sewer assessments. The water district intends to mail property owners a notice next week notifying them of the assessment to be charged on their 2018/2019 property tax bill.
