The Morongo Valley CSD held a town hall meeting Saturday about the proposed Fire Tax for the community. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says it was a full house on hand…
It was a packed house for Saturday morning’s town hall meeting on the proposed fire tax in Morongo Valley. If approved, the tax would replace the current property assessment with an annual $350 per parcel tax. The measure is being put forward by the Morongo Valley Community Services District. All five CSD directors attended the meeting and took questions. The tax would generate an estimated $900,000 annually, enough to retain local fire service at current levels. Without the tax, fire protection there would eventually come under county auspices. Under county control, property owners would be looking at an annual assessment of around $875, nearly triple what the CSD proposes. Voters there will make the ultimate decision at the polls June 7; a two-thirds majority is needed to pass. The district’s next planned town hall meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.
