If you spent some time in the military and now want to retire, where’s the best place to go? Reporter David Haldane tells us about a study answering
precisely that question…
Is California a good place for veterans to retire? According to a recent study, well, not so much.
Comparing all fifty states and the District of Columbia, the study—conducted by the personal-finance website WalletHub—ranked the Golden State 36th overall, with Florida number one and DC bringing up the rear.
The study looked at 27 key indicators of retirement-friendliness towards veterans including job opportunities, housing affordability and the quality of VA hospitals. In a couple of bright spots, California ranked fifth in ratio of VA benefit administration facilities per veteran and third in the ratio of VA health facilities. Affordability of housing, however, was another story; the state came in almost last at number 50.
