A NEW BUSINESS SCAM WANTS TO SELL YOU YOUR OWN “AWARD”

A local business owner recently received an email saying that her business had been selected for the 2019 Twentynine Palms Award program. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the so-called “award” is a scam…

An email claiming your business has been selected for a “2019 Best of Twentynine Palms Award” with very little additional detail is landing in the inboxes of many local businesses. As with similar emails sent to unsuspecting businesses and nonprofit agencies throughout the country, the “winner” must pay $149 to $229 to claim the honor and receive a personalized plaque. The Better Business Bureau urges businesses to recognize that these awards, which require you to pay a fee, hold little to no reputable value. Websites that the “winners” are directed to include, but are not necessarily limited to, businessrecognition2019.org, inrecognition.org, and awardconnections.org. Save your money and don’t fall victim to this scam.
