San Bernardino County residents have been living with coronavirus and its effects for a year now. On March 1, 2020, there were 40 people with COVID-19 in California; just over a year later, there are more than 3.5 million cases in the state. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency March 4, 2020, and issued his first stay-at-home order March 12, 2020. San Bernardino County recorded its first death to COVID-19 March 24, 2020, with a total of 38 cases in the county. Since then, more than 288,000 residents have contracted the virus and 3,176 people have died.
Since December, San Bernardino County has administered more than 415,000 vaccinations; about 134,000 residents have received both doses. Almost 10.5 million Californians have received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
