“A History of Off-Roading in the California Desert, 1945-1990.” That’s the title of this Friday’s 7 p.m. Old Schoolhouse lecture presented by the Twentynine Palms Historical Society and the Desert Institute. Off-highway vehicle use is one of the most divisive issues in land use today. Writer and Ph.D. candidate Julia Sizek draws on oral histories and archival material to argue that conflict over dirt bikes and dune buggies is not only a result of technological change, but also of debate over leisure, ecology, and the meaning of public lands. This is a live, online, digital presentation. Admission is $5. Sign up at: Crowdcast.io/e/a-history-of-off-roading
