Twentynine Palms held its annual re-organization meeting last night. Reporter David Haldane was there and filed this report…
Twentynine Palms is a growing city with a bright future and a new mayor. Those first two points were emphasized in outgoing Mayor John Cole’s state-of-the-city address delivered to a standing-room-only crowd via videotape at last night’s City Council meeting.
“The city council has high expectations for progress in the city with private development, public policy and public infrastructure. We have a bright future.”
The address was videotaped, he said, for later replay on the city’s web site. In other business, the Council received an audit report showing an $11.3 million budget surplus, and got its first glimpse at maps showing proposed boundaries for future voting districts.
Finally, the Council elected McArthur Wright as its new mayor and Steven Bilderain as mayor pro tem to the cheers of an overflowing crowd that could hardly contain its enthusiasm.
