A FIRE CAUSES EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO A DESERT HEIGHTS AREA HOME THIS MORNING

An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a single-story home in the Desert Heights area west of Twentynine palms early this morning. Fire Chief Jim Thompson said the fire was reported at about 2:00 a.m. this morning at a single family residence in the 2100 block of Pampas. Twentynine Palms firefighters, assisted by Combat Center and Joshua Tree units, arrived to find the porch of the home fully engulfed in flames extending into the residence. An aggressive attack had the fire knocked down in about 15 minutes. Thompson said there was extensive damage to the porch and one bedroom of the house and heavy smoke damage to the rest. The residents and their pets had evacuated the home and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is being conducted to determine the cause. Chief Thompson estimated the damage to the home and contents at about $30,000.
