Twenty years ago this fall, the California Desert Protection Act enlarged and re-designated Joshua Tree and Death Valley national monuments as national parks, established the Mojave National Preserve, and designated 69 new Bureau of Land Management wilderness areas. Reporter Caitlin Logan says the 20th anniversary of the California Desert protection Act is being celebrated locally with one event being held in Joshua Tree tomorrow…
The CDPA 20th anniversary gives an opportunity to celebrate and support the preservation, enhancement, and sustainability of California Deserts. On November 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be an event to celebrate at Joshua Tree Railroad Museum, off Park Blvd., near the Joshua Tree National Park entrance. There will be interpretive talks on the CDPA and protection of desert habitat, storytellers, desert history narratives, vintage trains, and an anniversary cake cutting in the historic dining car at the museum. Admission is free and the event is hosted by Mojave Desert Land Trust. For more information call 760-366-5440, or visit www.mojavedesertlandtrust.org.
