A forfeit has put the Twentynine Palms High School golf team in first place in the DeAnza League. At the end of the regular season in golf, there was a three-way tie for first place between Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, and Rancho Mirage. The tie resulted in a co-championship for all three teams. Because the DeAnza league can only send one team to the CIF team championships, there was a tiebreaker on the first nine holes of the preliminary match Tuesday. Rancho Mirage finished in first place, Twentynine Palms in second, and Yucca Valley in third. After the results were final, it was discovered that Rancho Mirage had used an ineligible player. CIF rules state that match would be forfeited, and the win—and DeAnza league championship—would go to Twentynine Palms who posted the next lowest score. The Wildcats will now travel to Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills on Monday, May 16, to compete in the Eastern Division of the CIF team championship.
