A CAUTIONARY TALE ABOUT RENTING OUT PARTY VENUES

A complaint about a Joshua Tree vacation rental being used as a special event venue for weddings has resulted in a warning to the owner by the county. In May, a listener contacted Z1077 News about homes at 59729 and 59727 Melton Trail being used and marketed as a venue for weddings and large parties. Z1077 News contacted county code enforcement, who told us that county permits ARE needed for such events, and no permits had been issued for special events at those addresses. The county contacted the property owner, who has subsequently changed the listing on online vacation rental sites to note that the property is a vacation rental only, and not a special events venue. The county requires short-term vacation home rentals to have a special-use permit and requires the owners to notify neighbors that the home is a short-term vacation rental. Links to the county’s development code concerning short term rentals and special events permits can be found with this story at z1077fm.com.
