It’s said “All’s well that ends well,” but this story could have had multiple bad endings. About 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, a woman called deputies to report that she had seen two young children walking down Sunburst Avenue near the old elementary school in Joshua Tree. She said the children asked for a ride to Walmart to get drinks for their mother. The woman drove the children to Walmart; the children then said they wanted to get new toys because all of their toys were old. The woman then called the Sheriff’ and told deputies she would take the kids to the Joshua Tree Valero station. The deputy met the woman at the Valero gas station and one of the boys directed the deputy to his neighborhood. The deputy saw the children’s mother out walking looking for her children. She told the deputy she was cleaning and thought her children were watching a movie in a bedroom. The deputy inspected the home and found all was well.
