A 6.4 EARTHQUAKE THIS MORNING IN THE NEVADA DESERT

A preliminary 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the Northern Nevada desert early this (Friday) morning, according to the United States Geological Survey, and it may have been felt in the Bay Area. The quake, which struck at about 4:05 a.m. PT, was centered in Tonopah, Nevada, about midway between South Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, the USGS said. The temblor was followed by multiple aftershocks, including two measuring as strong as 5.4, according to the USGS.
